Lessons from Kit

If you recall, in a previous post  I mentioned that Kit, my four footed pal is a reflection for me. I’m super curious what the heck she is trying to teach me right now.

A few weeks ago, she broke her rear right leg in an accident. Since the incident, she’s been a unique trial. Because of how the pin is placed, the vet believes that it is interacting with a nerve and she just finds it extremely uncomfortable/painful to lay down. She has decided it is better for her to attempt to sleep standing up like a horse and doing some extreme up-dog poses to stretch. This event is causing my spouse and I to take shifts sleeping so that we can give her pain medication, monitor her movement and attempt to assist her to lay down so she can get some actual rest.

We’re rather stressed, tired and incredibly bummed that Kit is in pain and not resting. We are handling it together and asking for what we need. We are drinking our water, getting our time outside, and settling for nice long hugs to help us cope.I’m using the coaching cards I’m creating for you to help me to cope as well. I specifically recall asking myself one of my card questions:  “What is certain right now?” as we were in the midst of the unknown before we got an appointment at the vet. This question card helped me ground into the present and not go off into the weeds of the unknown and fear.  It is not a picnic, but I’m thankful for my spouse and for YouTube that helped me figure out a sling to assist in moving her as well as the rescue organization we adopted Kit from for their help as well.  Four more weeks to go.

So part of me is wondering what trauma am I keeping in my body/mind that is preventing me from moving forward to my own healing. Now, I am not downplaying her pain, but if she could rest, she could heal. It makes me wonder what is right in front of me that might involve some pain/discomfort that if I just did it, would help me. That is something for me to ponder and it is an invitation for you to see what is right in front of you that is here to teach you lessons for your growth. AND to continue to take care of yourself during stressful situations.
