Myofascial Release- John Barnes Approach
-
What is it?
The John Barnes Approach to Myofascial Release is a hands on, whole body healng modality. Therapist and client work together with awareness to follow the clues of the body with the goal of “healing” instead of “fixing.” It is a journey, not a single stop destination.
Myo means muscle and fascia is the gooey yet fibrous connective tissue that connects us head to toe. Fascia has electro-magnetic, fiber-optic communication capabilities and innervates (is in) every tissue, organ, system and cell. It is what keeps things separate while still connected to the whole.

How does it work?
This hands-on bodywork is slow and deliberate. It is holding the body in a position or applying light but direct contact to the skin for at least two to five minutes. This longer time frame allows the fascia tissue to un-glue itself to create new pathways of ease. That is the structure part of myofascial release. Rebounding, or purposeful shaking of the body or limbs is another aspect. As is unwinding. Unwinding occurs when the body finds a position in space where it can process a past experience. These three aspects work together to allow for healing. Myofascial release work is a journey of healing.

What else do I need to know?
This bodywork is different from massage because the client remains clothed during the session. Myofascial release requires hand to skin contact and I'll be observing your skin throughout the session. How your skin reacts will lead me to our next destination of treatment during the session.
We may move around a lot during your session. From treating an area on the front of the body, we might move to the side or the back and then return to the front of the body. This is why you are required to remain with some clothing on during the session. It also protects you if your body decides to unwind in a full body way. For an idea of what to wear for a session, see the photo below.

Myofascial Release is my favorite bodywork to offer. You may have wondering if it is a good fit for you. To answer your questions about Myofascial Release, I have a free consult call so that you can have the information you need to make a decision for your wellness. That appointment can be made by clicking the “WORK WITH ME” button located at the top of this page.
Because Myofascial Release is a journey with your body and not a “one stop - fix my issue appoinment,” it takes multiple appointments to interrupt the patterns into which your body has become locked. The more often we meet, the more purposeful change we’ll see in your body’s fascia. When the appointments are more often and closer together we prevent the body from reverting to the conditions that caused you pain and discomfort. Myofascial Release works has the aim of healing, which means we work together to create the new patterns of ease and movement so that your chronic symptoms and the reasons for them are lessened. In other words, you won’t be coming to me each month to “fix you”; rather we’ll work together more often so that one day we’ll only have to meet up for check -ups and to smooth things out.
To facilitate your journey I offer pathways of treatment. The first is a session by session method. The second is you can purchase a Mini-Intensive package. With this option, the sessions you purchase are designed to be used within 30 days so that you can experience relief more quickly. The third option is to apply for an Intensive Week plan. With this option we dedicate four days within five weekdays for you to receive 8 sessions. This amplified approach really jump-starts your healing journey.
I perform my bodywork services at Full Circle Wellness in Georgetown, Kentucky. To book the session by session appointments or the Mini-Intensive, please follow this link. It will take you to a scheduling page of Full Circle Wellness
For the Intensive Week please click here. It will send you to a Google Form with questions to answer. Because of the uniqueness of this offering I ask for you to give me a range of possible dates. When I have Intensive Week clients I need to make adjustments to my “normal” schedule.
You can always reach out to me if you have questions about the process of booking all appointments by following the “Contact” tab in the Menu. I look forward to seeing you on my schedule!
